The First Constituent Congress of the Greeks of the Soviet Union was held in Gelendzhik on March, from 29 till 31 in 1991. At this congress 244 delegates were represented from 56 primary and regional Greek associations of country. That congress initiated of development of Greek movement in modern Russia.
The congress of Greek communities of Russia was held in Mineralnie Vody in July 1992. Communities of Stavropol, Kabardino-Balkaria, Karachaevo-Cherkesia, Krasnodar took part at that congress. Federation of communities of Russia with the Chairman Macukatov Yakov was established there. However, the charter and other constituent documents were not submitted to the state registration authorities.
At the new Constituent Congress, which was held on October 31, 1992 32 delegates from 14 social organizations of Krasnodar region, Rostov on Don region, Adygea, The North Osetia, Moscow, Sankt-Petersburg, Ural, Bashkiria, Krasnoyarsk region and others were represented.
At the congress, the charter of the new organization — the Association of Greek Communities of Russia was officially issued. Grigoriy Melanifidi from Moscow was elected as a Chairman . The charter was registered by the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation on August 12, in 1993.
Unification congress of both organizations was held in September 12, 1993 in Stavropol. The organization was unified by one name — the Association of Greek Communities of Russia, which consisted at that time of 23 organizations from 12 regions of Russia. Konstantin Dmitriev from Krasnodar became the chairman of the united organization.
Afterwards, in June 1997 at the next congress of the Association of Greek Communities of Russia in Novorossiysk was applied changes in the charter and was decided to change the name of organization. It was called Association of Greek Social Communities of Russia. That organization was registered on April 21, 1998. Gennadiy Chopozov from Yessentuki became the chairman.
From 2000 till 2004 Vladimir Kaishev was the President of Association of Greek social communities of Russia.
During the congress, which was held on June 6, 2004 in Rostov on Don, at the presence of 62 delegates Ivan Savvidi was elected as a new President of organization.
March 4, 2011 Federal national and cultural autonomy of Greeks of Russia was organized, which became an assignee in Russian Greek movement.
May 6, 2014 at the congress in Simferopol the Social organization Regional national and cultural autonomy of Greeks of Crimea «Tavrida», which unites about 7 000 of Greeks was taken to the Association of Greek Societies and Federal national and cultural autonomy of Greeks of Russia.
June 21, 2015 Ivan Savvidi was elected as a President of Federal national and cultural autonomy of Greeks of Russia.
